Rheumatology is a medical specialty that focuses on diagnosing and treating musculoskeletal and autoimmune inflammatory diseases, especially chronic ones. Rheumatologists typically manage conditions such as:

  • Rheumatoid arthritis

  • Psoriatic arthritis

  • Lupus

  • Ankylosing spondylitis

  • JIA

  • Gout​

Common Symptoms Seen in Rheumatology Conditions:

Joint-related symptoms:

  • Pain (often worse in the morning or after rest)

  • Stiffness, especially morning stiffness lasting >30 minutes

  • Swelling or visible joint puffiness

  • Warmth or redness over the joint

  • Reduced range of motion

​

Systemic / whole-body symptoms:

  • Fatigue (very common)

  • Low-grade fever

  • Unintentional weight loss

  • Malaise (general feeling of being unwell)
